no the point is that making a tearful, emotional post about how awful being bullied for being white or heterosexual is
in response to a post that’s about how these things are insignificant in comparison to the shit non-whites and non-heterosexual people deal with CONSTANTLY
is completely missing the point! the point is that those people DIE because of the prejudices they face. yes bullying in any form is wrong. no one in their right mind is arguing otherwise. to act like people are arguing otherwise so that you may valiantly step up and emotionally defend the poor masses of white, straight people that get bullied for their race or sexuality (this is sarcasm) is just a distraction from the very REAL issue of sometimes LEGALLY SANCTIONED BIGOTRY faced by LGBTQ+ and non-whites.
I don’t see how the race thing is any more blurred. Perhaps you are very young, and I don’t mean this in a negative way toward you. I have relatives old enough to remember segregation. Please understand that there are a lot of old white men in power right now that can remember segregation and remember those years as “the good old days”.
As for “racism” against whites.. i’ve written about this before.
basically the important part is recognizing that certain types of bigotry hold more power because the people acting with prejudice hold more power.
NO ONE WITH ANY MIND FOR HUMAN RIGHTS WILL EVER ARGUE THAT BULLYING OR OPPRESSION IS OKAY! FOR ANY GROUP. Acting like someone is condoning it by saying - RIGHTLY SO - that racism against whites or prejudice against straights is insignificant in comparison is just a huge misconception. it has no real place in a discussion about human rights. no matter how badly a white person is bullied or taunted for their race, they will never worry about being denied a job, shelter, or schooling because of it. they will not be shot in the streets for looking “threatening” or “like a terrorist”. children are still being unjustly shot by POLICE, the people who are supposed to PROTECT THEM… for being a minority.
no matter how teased or how many hateful anons a heterosexual person may get, their right to be married will not be questioned. they will not be arbitrarily accused of being a child molester. they won’t be denied adoption because of their sexuality alone. they and their partner will not be dragged out into the streets and beaten, or shot, or tied up behind a truck and dragged for miles just because the sight of them holding hands or kissing offended someone’s brainwashed sensibilities.
i’m upset about racism. i’m upset about homophobia. i think EVERYONE should be upset about this bullshit. read the news and recognize the fact that we have a LONG WAY to go before we can let ourselves sit back and say “yeah, what about the white straight kids, they really need our sympathy/consideration when we discuss the non-white LGBTQ+ kids.”

Ron and I have been upset about this for months at this point. She wrote a rant about it that I agree with heartily. Star Trek has a precedent of progressiveness and at this point it’s moving backwards.
We both had to deal with people telling us that Cumberbatch was cast because of his acting skills, NOT his race or the Britaboo Explosion. Since apparently his amazing skills trump any possible non-white actor’s!

look, you can talk about “the purity of the author’s intent” as much as you want but when you get down to it:
Why does race matter so much to you? What bearing does race have on the story at all? The character integrity, personality, function in the story, everything is completely maintained. There’s no element in the tale that is altered irrevocably or ruined by having a Black Aragorn. Or an Asian Galadriel. Nothing changes. Literally nothing. If it just takes changing the races of characters to be “bad” then film adaptations shouldn’t exist at all! They changed loads of stuff, omitted entire chapters!
Changing a character’s race doesn’t do anything to the story - it affects the audience. It opens the story up to more people, gives them the encouragement to imagine themselves in that world, too. As someone who grew up reading fantasy novels and immersing myself in their worlds, I think something like that can have a huge impact on a person. If you react to people who just want to see themselves in these worlds by slapping their hand and saying, “no, not for you, because the author didn’t say so” - well, what the fuck is your problem?
Also we live in a world DOMINATED by white culture and media so if someone comes at me with the “why don’t POC just make their own stuff omg!!!!!!!!” argument I am going to throw used cat litter into your face I swear to god.

This shockingly racist article I’ve seen passed around with indignant commentary (and insults/threats aimed at the woman who is the subject of the article) is marked as satire.
Similarly this story about Samsung impossibly paying Apple $1 billion dollars in nickels is categorized as both “humor” and “satire.”
Please before you get worked up in a froth over something PLEASE at least check the source and confirm that it is a real article. Especially given how misguidedly passionate people can be.
